No Cups!

At our races, we require all participants to carry their own water bottle or hydration device.  We will provide water at the start / finish and at staffed and un-staffed aid stations.  There will be NO cups at our aid stations, except at the MAIN aid station (for soup and hot drinks).  And those cups or bowls will be recyclable.  Runners will have to refill their water bottle or hydration device at the aid stations as needed.  Pitchers will be provided at staffed aid stations, to speed-up the process.

A hydration device or water bottle(s) will be REQUIRED to be carried by participants at our longer-distance events, from 15 miles to 100-kilometers.  Failure to do so will mean automatic disqualification from the race.  This is for your own safety.

Why?

Because cups are wasteful, they end up in landfills, and don’t work very well at hydrating runners.  At each staffed aid station, runners can have their bottle or hydration system refilled quickly with either cold water or sport drink, using a pitcher poured by a helpful volunteer.  All you have to do is open up your bottle or hydration system and request the fluid of your choice.  This is an obviously superior system on ecological grounds, however, we have found it results in less spillage (less waste) and better hydration for runners (they have access to fluid between aid stations as it is always with them).

Keep in mind that your speed and progress on a trail event may be slower than you think, and it may take longer for you to get to that next aid station.  That's where a hydration device or bottle excels.
